Guided visit to the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

In 1981 the manufacturing jewellers, Smith and Pepper,  closed their workshop in the Jewellery Quarter for the last time, leaving behind its tools, workshop and offices as they stood on that last day. Some years later it was reopened as a museum celebrating Birmingham’s jewellery manufacturing and metalworking heritage.  Come with us for a guided tour with a difference.  We have invited Bargain Hunt’s antiques expert Ben Cooper along to talk about his family’s involvement with the business - his grandmother’s siblings were Miss Olive and Mr Tom (whose office and workshop we shall see) and to have lunch with us afterwards.

 A table is booked nearby at The Jewellers Arms for lunch if you would like to join us afterwards. 

Numbers are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Date and Time: Thursday 12 November at 10.30 am

Meeting point : Museum main entrance. 70-80 Vyse Street, Hockley, B18 6HA

Duration: 1 to 1½ hours

Access: Limited disabled access is available. The Museum requires prior notice so please indicate if you require further details.

Parking: A multi-storey car park can be accessed from Vyse St and Northampton St.  There is also on street parking (payable via Ring-Go), and the tram stops at Jewellery Quarter. 

Cost:   £25 members; £30 non-members   Optional lunch at The Jewellers Arms to be paid for separately. The cost includes a donation to Headway Worcestershire supporting adults suffering from brain injury of which Ben Cooper is Patron.

   Christmas Concert

Symphony Hall and The Exchange

Monday 7th December 2026 at 1.00pm

Get into the mood for Christmas! Join us at Symphony Hall for a lunchtime concert of glorious Christmas music from the renowned Birmingham City Organist, Thomas Trotter and the Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge.

Before the concert we are meeting from 11.00am onwards at The Exchange café which is the erstwhile home of the Municipal Bank built in 1933. You can purchase refreshments there.

Date and Time: Monday 7 December at 1.00pm.

Parking: Q-Park Brindleyplace and Q-Park Mailbox. There is Blue Badge parking at ICC car park requiring registration with the B Music Access Scheme and advance booking.

Duration: The concert will last for about an hour. Please note seating is unallocated.

Access: Symphony Hall is fully accessible and there is wheelchair space in the stalls and upper circle.

There is disabled access to The Exchange via Bridge Street and the North Entrance where there is a ramp and fully automated doors. There is also a ramp at the South Entrance.

Cost: £20 members; £25 non-members.  (Refreshments at The Exchange to be purchased separately on the day.)
